Museum of St. Isidore

Taking in some culture as a tourist in Leon today.  Mass this morning at San Isidoro basilica.   The relics of the saint are in an exquisite silver casket underneath the monstrance used for perpetual adoration.   It's a wonderful place to pray.

Beside the church, the palace of the Kings and Queens of Leon has been made into a museum.  The cloisters were lovely to walk...  revealing a chapel where many of the royals are buried with original frescos nicknamed the Sistine chapel of Spain.  There is also a library with many ancient manuscripts of both the Bible and early church fathers.  This was a center of culture and power in the 11th and 12th centuries.
