Arres

A long 30km walk today from Ruesta to Arres.  Gorgeous day.  Highs in the mid 60s.  Mostly flat terrain as the Camino follows the Aragon river valley.

Ruesta

Gorgeous day for a 22 km walk to Ruesta.  Great vistas and a little history as a bit of ancient Roman road was seen.  This village is basically abandoned except for the albergue.   Nice quiet pilgrim stop.

Monreal

A lovely sunny day for a long Walk from Obanos to Monreal.  The path this time is narrower than on other routes,  and more overgrown in places, but it is lovely and well signposted.

I went by the 12th century church at Eunate this morning.   This is where I left off my walk in 2022.

Another long walk tomorrow but the weather is great and the flowers are in bloom.

Obanos

Made it safely to Obanos.  The two flights went smoothly.  Tomorrow will bring the beginning of the Camino Aragones.

Jerash

Our last day started with Mass at Our Lady of the Mountain shrine.  Jesus and Mary slept in the cave behind the altar on their journey from Galilee to Jerusalem.

Then we headed to Ajlun Castle.  This ruin was built by Saladin in his fight against the Crusaders. It sits on a lovely promontory overlooking the Jordan Valley.

The final stop was Jerash, the ancient city of Philadelphia.   It was destroyed by an earthquake in 749 but the ruins of the Roman city were well preserved by the sands until being excavated slowly over the last century.

Tomorrow we head back to Atlanta.

Petra

We spent the day exploring Petra.  The Nabataeans left behind remarkable carvings in the walls of the canyon.  The facades mark the tombs of the people, great and small.

The pictures only scratch the surface of the scope and beauty of the place. The tomb facades are amazing and immense.  The various churches and temples are lovely.
