Walk

Gorgeous walk today.  Much prettier approach to the city on this route compared to the other three.  It stays rural until much closer in, and has much nicer vistas in the process.

Ponte Ulla

A gorgeous Sunday for walking 20km to Ponte Ulla.  Tomorrow, hopefully in Santiago. Happy Father's Day! Happy Trinity Sunday!!

Silleda

Made it safely to Silleda.  Today's weather was lovely ...  in the 50s and 60s.  The path out of Lalin was followed a city park.

But most of the day was spent on forest path.  

One old bridge dating to Roman times was a treat. 

Lalin

Another fine day for walking...  cool temperature and overcast skies.   Walked 22km to Lalin.

Rodeiro

A splendid day for walking.... overcast,  cool, slight breeze.  Very Galician day for sauntering 26km to Rodeiro along country roads.  

Chantada

A gorgeous walk today to the town of Chantada.  There was rain overnight so the day started in the fog.  

The morning was cool and crisp.  Went through a forest.

The big excitement for today was dropping down to the town of Belesar in order to cross the river Miño.  It's a steep descent and just as steep ascent on the other side.  But lovely vista of the river and the vineyards.   

Also had a stretch on an old Roman road...  just love 2000 year old engineering. 

Vilariño

Nice 16km walk today up to Vilarino.   

Monforte de Lemos

Short walk today of 13km to Monforte de Lemos.  This is the regional capital of this wine growing region.  Some lovely history and culture to take in before continuing the Walk.

A Pobra

Today's walk was through the hills.  The weather is grand...  overcast in the morning, clear in the afternoon.   Very peaceful.  

Quiroga

Lovely long walk today along the Sil river to Quiroga.   

A Rua

Made the walk of 21 km to A Rua de Valdeorras today.  Mostly flat terrain, but along sidewalks and the side of the road.  Not so scenic, but a view at Spanish life. 

Came across a bridge building project.  Rather festive to see this new flyway going in, and we could just walk right under it.  

The albergue is by the church, and they have Mass which is a nice blessing.  

Sobradelo

Lovely day for a 27km walk to Sobradelo.  The morning was spent climbing up to Las Medulas, the largest gold mine of the Roman Empire. 

The Camino continued downhill into the Sil river valley.

Marian shrines

Passed by two Marian shrines today.  Both were closed but I was able to sneak a peak through the window.  First of our Lady of Mount Carmel.

And Our Lady of Consolation. 

Walking

Started the Camino this morning under overcast skies.

The cool temperature and slight breeze made for ideal conditions for the 22km to Borrenes.  

I am so thankful to be walking again.  Not many pilgrims on this route, so the quiet was lovely.  

Ponferrada

Made my way leisurely by bus this afternoon to Ponferrada.  Home to an enormous Knights Templar castle.  The church commemorates an appearance of the Blessed Mother in the 12th century.
